A member company of Canada’s largest retailer has received a prize for its awareness campaign for sustainable seafood.
Provigo, a Quebec-based member of the Loblaw Companies, received the 2013 Phénix de l’environnement prize at the Québec National Assembly.
The prize, awarded annually for the past 15 years, promotes businesses in Québec that demonstrate a commitment to environmentally-friendly and sustainable business practices. The award is in recognition of Provigo’s Oceans for Tomorrow program, a national awareness campaign for sustainable seafood, which raises awareness of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)’s ecolabel.
“It is truly an honor to have our efforts to generate awareness for sustainable methods of fishing recognized by a program as prestigious as the Phénix de l’environnement,” said Marie-Hélène Michaud, director of environmental affairs at Loblaw. “We will continue our effort to educate Canadians about sustainable seafood and are committed to offer choices that will help protect fish inventories and marine life.”
