While on patrol, law enforcement agents in the U.S. state of Louisiana discovered a man from Texas who had illegally harvested 5,000 pounds of shrimp.

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDFW), agents were patrolling along the Gulf of Mexico – referred to as the Gulf of America by the Trump administration – in Cameron Parish when they came across 63-year-old Michael Le actively shrimping from his vessel. Upon inspection, agents discovered that the Palacios, Texas resident did not possess a vessel license.

Agents cited Le for taking commercial fish without a license and seized the 5,000 pounds of shrimp he had already harvested. The shrimp was later taken to the dock and sold to the highest bidder.

According to LDWF, commercial fishing without a vessel license can result in a fine of up to USD 500 (EUR 426) and up to 90 days in jail. In August, the Louisiana state government announced that commercial fishing licenses and other key documents – including driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations – on LA Wallet, an app for mobile devices.
