Mazzetta Co. is now a member of the National Fisheries Institute Crab Council. The announcement came at the organization’s 2012 Global Seafood Market Conference in Miami last week.
The NFI Crab Council — whose members represent the bulk of the imported blue swimming crab market — supports producers and exporters in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines to advance the sustainability of blue swimming crab fisheries, providing funding to coordinate research programs and management initiatives for the species.
“We have a vested and personal interest in making sure seafood is raised and caught in an environmentally responsible manner,” said Mazzetta Co. founder and CEO Tom Mazzetta. “The NFI Crab Council is committed to taking a long-term-view of how our actions affect future generations and making sure we do not deplete resources.”
Based in Highland Park, Ill., Mazzetta Co. markets the SEAMAZZ brand of blue swimming crab from Thailand. The family-owned business is one the United States’ largest frozen seafood importers.
