Pharma Marine omega-3 lines retain Friend of the Sea certification

The CalaMarine, CodMarine and LipidMarine omega-3 product lines manufactured by Norwegian company Pharma Marine AS have been re-certified according to the Friend of the Sea sustainability standard.

CalaMarine is produced from trimmings of squid left over from food production, while the crude cod oil used to make CodMarine is from onboard factory trawlers fishing in the Barents Sea. LipidMarine is made from sustainable anchovy and sardine biomass.

Pharma Marine products have been certified by Friend of the Sea for the past 10 years.

“Their example shows that it is possible to work sustainably even with a highly complex supply chain in an advanced product,” Friend of the Sea Director Paolo Bray.

Pharma Marine founder Leif Kjetil credits his father, a pioneer in the fishing and fish processing industry, as an inspiration behind the “company’s ethos” to be innovative and have respect for the environment.

“My father thought me the importance of utilizing everything we harvest from nature,” Kjetil said.
