Shetland Seafood Auctions today reported an increase in landings for 2007 with an 18 percent rise in the value of whitefish and a 14 percent increase in volume to 12,969 metric tons.
Results are attributed to an increase in fleet size to 26 vessels, in addition to landings by 51 Scottish boats, five Scandinavian, one Irish and one English vessel.
"I'm delighted that, once again, we've experienced an increase in the value and [volume] of landings," said auction manager Martin Leyland in a press release. "It's great news that we continue to attract a diverse cross section of boats."
Shetland also announced it is focusing attention on assisting the farmed seafood sector to introduce an online auction.
