SmartFish meeting focuses on cooperation

Nearly 80 participants at a recent meeting in the Seychelles organized by the regional fisheries program SmartFish learned new ways to enhance regional cooperation in sustainable fisheries development for Africa and the Indian Ocean regions.

The SmartFish program, funded by the European Union and managed by the Indian Ocean Commission and the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization, organized the meeting to discuss fisheries development in eastern and southern Africa and the Indian Ocean region. The meeting addressed trade and food security, monitoring control and surveillance and governance and fisheries management.

The SmartFish program is entering its second phase in a couple of weeks and will implement the lessons learned throughout the 9-11 March meeting.
