Galveston, Texas, U.S.A. seafood warehouse Texas Gulf Seafood was destroyed by a fire 5 August.
“The Galveston Fire Department has contained the large warehouse fire that began Wednesday evening at Texas Gulf Seafood near 7th Street and Wharf Road,” the department said in a Facebook post. “Firefighters responded at approximately 8:40 p.m. to find the building fully engulfed in flames. Crews safely rescued three people and one dog from the structure. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.”
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and no one was injured according to local first responders
“The Galveston Fire Marshal's Office will investigate the cause of the fire,” Galveston Fire Department said.
The owner of the warehouse, Harbor Properties, told FOX 26 6 August that it had not yet heard from the owner of Texas Gulf Seafood, Andy Huynh, about the fire.
It’s not immediately clear what impact the loss of the warehouse will have on the Houston seafood economy.
“Our restaurants and seafood suppliers are already operating under significant cost pressures; for example, unprocessed finfish costs are up nearly 31 percent since last year,” the Texas Restaurant Association told Houston Public Media in a statement. “While it's too early to determine the full impact of this fire, we're in close contact with local industry leaders to monitor for any supply chain disruptions. As more information becomes available, we'll share updates and resources with the community to help our members and the supply chain partners they rely upon to serve fresh Gulf seafood to our fellow Texans.”
