Oak Brook, Illinois, U.S.A.-based Krusinski Construction Company has built two major cold storage facilities for Santa Monica Seafood’s Mountain West and Mid-Atlantic expansion plans.

“These projects are an integral part of our efforts to support Santa Monica Seafood as the company expands its presence and capabilities to deliver goods quickly throughout the country,” Krusinski Executive Vice President Andy Johnson said.

The new facilities are part of a move by the wholesaler to expand its presence outside of the U.S. Southwest and allow it to deliver to 40 states within 48 hours of packaging.

The Mid-Atlantic facility required Krusinski to renovate a 25,000-square-foot industrial space in Elkridge, Maryland, into a state-of-the-art food-processing center. Krusinski began by replacing the building’s infrastructure with new plumbing, electrical services, floor drainage, and sanitary lines that were essential to accommodating the complex cooling and freezer spaces, packaging lines, ambient rooms, and refrigerated requirement to work in temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

The other facility, in Thorton, Colorado, required a partial demolition and the removal of existing equipment and dock modifications.

“Food-processing facilities typically require a higher, more intense level of scrutiny and approval for health and safety-related concerns,” Johnson said. “Because of that, the project required a detailed and coordinated effort to complete the demolition of the previous space, rebuilding to Santa Monica’s and the local municipal specifications, installing equipment, and securing approval from inspectors.”

According to Johnson, Maryland's stricter local inspection process helped the company foresee and avoid inefficiencies in the Colorado project.

The Krusinski Construction team relies on collaboration with the Citadel National Construction Group, an alliance of seven regional construction firms that serve 17 cities.

"his alliance allows Krusinski, a founding member, and other firms to tap into the resources and connections that might otherwise be difficult to identify with great confidence,” Krusinski said in a release.

Founded in 1973, Krusinski Construction Company specializes in providing comprehensive constructive services.
