Lipari Foods recalls shrimp

Warren, Mich.-based Lipari Foods is recalling certain packages of Wholey peeled, cooked, tail-on shrimp sold mostly in the American Midwest  due to possible salmonella contamination.

The organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal illnesses in young children, frail or elderly people, or people with compromised immune systems.

So far, there are no reports of the product causing illness. The recalled product was initially distributed to manufacturers and retailers in Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Indiana during 25 and 26 July 2013.

The product is sold under the Wholey brand, one-pound bag, UPD number 094776074556, lot numbers 30081, 10081, 70081, 30084, and 00884.
