Sea Fresh USA on Friday announced that its North Kingstown, R.I., processing facility has been certified under the British Retail Consortium (BRC) standard for food safety.
A member of the Global Food Safety Initiative, the BRC has been internationally recognized as the leader in food-safety certification, and growing number of retailers and foodservice operators are requiring that their suppliers obtain the certification.
Sea Fresh is a vertically integrated primary seafood processor base in Rhode Island, with a processing plant in North Kingstown and has a fishing vessel-unloading facility in Pt. Judith. Sea Fresh is a principal processor of domestic Pt. Judith Loligo squid — sold both domestically and overseas — as well as a significant processor of monkfish, skate and dogfish for the European and Asian markets.
