Shrimp found in China with a nasty surprise

Authorities in China are investigating a report of shrimp that may have been pumped full of what appears to be a form of gelatin.

Customers discovered the clear, squishy substance inside shrimp sold by a market in Wenzhou, according to the Shanghaiist. The customers brought it to the attention of local media, and now authorities are investigating.

No one has confirmed just what the substance is yet, but many speculate that it might have been a material injected into the shrimp to make it look plumper and increase weight.

The media outlet spoke to the vendor, who said he didn’t know anything about it, and that he bought the shrimp from a retailer.
