The recent news that California-based Del Monte Foods decided to sell its StarKist canned-tuna business has sparked interest from several Asian seafood companies.
Interviewed by mergermarket, an online mergers and acquisitions news service, and reported in Financial Times, at least two Asian seafood companies have expressed interested in StarKist, as well as alternative expansion opportunities.
Sources from Dongwon F&B, a Korean food products provider, as well as Yeo Hiap Seng Limited, a Singapore food-and-beverage company that produces canned products, both stated that their companies would be prepared to enter into a deal with Del Monte.
An analyst covering the food industry in Southeast Asia also suggested that Pacific Andes, a Hong Kong frozen seafood producer, could benefit from acquiring StarKist.
