Undeclared allergen prompts fish cake product recall in Canada

Canada’s Korea Food Trading Ltd. announced on 14 June that it is recalling certain fish cake products due to an undeclared allergen. 

The products in question, which contain egg not declared on their packaging, have been distributed throughout Canada in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec among hotel, foodservice, institutional, and retail channels, the company said, according to a recent posting on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's website. 

The specifics of the recalled items are as follows:

  • Frozen Fried Fish Cake (Yellow Croaker, Cutlassfish, Pollack) – 1 kilogram in size, with product code 2020.10.03 and UPC 8 809183 642043.
  • Frozen Fried Fish Cake (Golden Thread Bream, Cutlassfish) – 1 kilogram in size, with product code 2020.10.01 and UPC 8 803122 013116. 
  • Charmjoeun’s Fish Cake Soup Frozen, Fried Fish Cake (Yellow Croaker, Cutlassfish) – 450 grams in size, with product code 2020.10.03 and UPC 8 803122 098649.
  • Charmjoeun’s Fish Cake Skewer Soup, Frozen Fish Cake (Yellow Croaker, Cutlassfish) – 320 grams in size, with product code 2020.10.03 and UPC 8 803122 098663.
