Top5-Heinens-3.jpeg3.) The seafood burger program at Cleveland, Ohio-based Heinen’s, which operates 23 stores, began as a way to not only capitalize on the burger trend, but also to utilize cuts and trims that typically go to waste. 

“The result has been a program that, year over year, has increased in sales and allows us to offer a variety of items, from wild salmon burgers to blends that include shrimp,” Marty Gaul, seafood director for Heinen’s, told SeafoodSource.

The salmon burgers, which retail for USD 12.99 (EUR 12.03) per pound, are made in-store with wild sockeye salmon, when available, or farmed Verlasso salmon. Flavors include Tropical, Bruschetta and Blue Cheese. The chain also offers a variety of shrimp burgers.
