Acme, Verlasso to launch new salmon product

Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Acme Smoked Fish Corp. has teamed up with Chilean aquaculture company Veriasso to introduce a new smoked salmon product during the 2013 Fancy Food Show in San Francisco on 20-22 January.

Acme plans to make the Veriasso smoked salmon product available to retail and food industry seafood buyers through Acme’s Blue Hill Bay Smoked Seafood brand.

“Verlasso Smoked Salmon gives our retail and food industry partners an all-natural, preservative-free and sustainable smoked salmon choice that focuses on continually improving salmon farming for both our health and the environment,” said Gabriel Viteri, V.P. of strategy and business development for Acme Smoked Fish Corporation.

Veriasso has billed its salmon as sustainably raised, and Alfonso Marquez de la Plata, CEO of AquaCile, the company that produces the Veriasso brand, said he hopes the deal will carry the sustainable concept to more consumers.

“Acme’s Blue Hill Bay brand is widely recognized as a leader in all-natural smoked seafood, and we’re proud to offer Verlasso Smoked Salmon to retailers and the food industry under the respected Blue Hill Bay name,” Marquez de la Plata said.

The new products will come in ready-to-eat, 3-ounce packages, and also in bulk, ranging from 2 to 3-pound sizes.
