United States sustainable seafood supplier Blue Circle Foods recently launched an online store along with new smoked salmon products to take advantage of the holiday season and food gifting.
Blue Circle’s online shop allows consumers to purchase the Washington, D.C.-based company’s products directly. Available items include: Happy Fish (cod and salmon), Cold Smoked Salmon, Hot Smoked Salmon, along with frozen salmon and cod fillets. The company's new smoked salmon products – a 12-ounce Blue Circle Cold Smoked Salmon Party Wheel and Blue Circle Cold Smoked Chef Cut – will also be available in the online store soon.
Blue Circle is rolling out its new products as smoked salmon “has continued to grow in popularity because of its flavor, name recognition and convenience,” Nina Damato, supply chain manager for Blue Circle, told SeafoodSource.
The supplier's 12-ounce Smoked Salmon Party Wheel is “everyone’s favorite smoked salmon in a format that’s great for entertaining, while the Chef Cut is a truly unique, thick-cut smoked salmon similar to a piece of sashimi,” Damato said. “We see great potential in the smoked salmon category for innovation in seasonings, flavors and novel formats, so when developing these new products, we tried to have some fun with it.”
Smoked salmon is an “excellent alternative protein that is high in antioxidants and omega-3s," Damato added.
"Like all of our products, these new smoked salmon SKUs are free from antibiotics, added hormones, GMOs and synthetic dyes, and are certified sustainable by Seafood Watch, Ocean Wise and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council,” she said.
This spring, Blue Circle launched Happy Fish Salmon in Whole Foods Market stores, followed by a fall launch of Happy Fish cod. The two Happy Fish items are sold in stand-up freezers in retailers’ seafood or grocery departments, while the Smoked Salmon Party Wheel and cold smoked Chef Cut is sold frozen, and then thawed to the final customer.
