Burger King to introduce cod pie in Chinese market

Chinese importer teams up with Burger King to produce cod pie for Chinese outlets

A leading Chinese importer of seafood has announced it is working with fast food chain Burger King to introduce a cod fish pie in Chinese outlets.

Shanghai-based Xin Tun Foods, which also trades under the Roman alphabet as Sintun, says it is working with the chain to roll out the pies this year.

A late starter in China compared to KFC and McDonald’s, Burger King has outlets in high-end malls and airports in major cities like Beijing. The company has said it wants to focus on “packaged” imported seafood, including pre-packaged frozen Western brands. The firm currently imports seafood from as far afield as Mozambique, where it buys lobsters from local firm Afritex. It also imports shrimp and pangasius from Southeast Asia.
