Captain D's reaches out to cash-strapped consumers

Reaching out to cash-strapped consumers, Captain D's Seafood Kitchen announced Tuesday that it's giving away USD 5,000 (EUR 3,974) in gas to members of its new D's Club.

Guests who sign up for the D's Club e-mail newsletter are eligible to receive one of 10 USD 500 gas cards on 1 April and will automatically receive a free Fish & Fries or Chicken & Fries meal and a "special offer" on their birthday.

D's Club members will also be the first to know about Captain D's specials and promotions.

Guests can sign up online at www.captainds.com/dsclub or in participating restaurants.

The giveaway coincides with the 580-restaurant fast-casual seafood chain's latest TV ad campaign, titled "Double Booth." During the 30-second spot, a Captain D's employee asks guests if they want to pay double to sit at a booth with a white linen tablecloth, silverware, candles and a chandelier.

"I don't care if you're going to feed me, I'm not going to pay double," says one of the guests.

At the end of the spot, Captain D's plugs its Big Easy Shrimp & Salmon meal with a creamy pepper sauce and a choice of sides "for half of what you pay at fancy restaurants."
