Prawns are off the menu at Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurants due to a global shortage that has seen wholesale prices rise 25 percent in a month.
The shortage of king and tiger prawns has been caused by a disease that has affected prawn farms in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and China.
Importers are therefore competing for supplies from countries unaffected by the disease, including India, Bangladesh and Ecuador, causing prices to rocket.
