Gorton's, SeaPak reach out to the community

Gorton's of Gloucester, Mass., and SeaPak of St. Simons Island, Ga., are among the food companies helping Winn-Dixie commemorate Frozen Food Month in March by giving back to the community.

When Winn-Dixie customers purchase select frozen food items, including Gorton's and SeaPak seafood products, from 25 February through 10 March, a portion of the sales will be donated to Feeding America, the nation's largest hunger-relief charity, supplying food to more than 25 million Americans annually.

The proceeds will be divided among Feeding America food banks within Winn-Dixie's operating states of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

"Because of the down economy, we continue to experience a significant increase in the number of families and individuals needing our help," said Wayne Rieley, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank of North Florida, on behalf of Feeding America. "As quickly as the food arrives on our shelves, it is moving out. It is a challenge to meet the demand. We urge the community to join in Winn-Dixie's effort to help our neighbors."

"Winn-Dixie has a long-standing tradition of giving back to the communities we serve," added Robin Miller, Winn-Dixie's director of communication. "This is just one more way for us to be a good neighbor, especially during these difficult economic times."
