Icelandic hires new director for Seachill

Icelandic Group has hired Simon Smith, the man who introduced The Saucy Fish Co. brand in the United Kingdom, to be the managing director for the group’s Seachill division.

Smith joined Icelandic in 2009 as a sales and marketing director, and is credited with “the lead role” in launching Saucy Fish, according to a company statement. He will now run Icelandic’s GBP 270 million (USD 435.1 million, EUR 337.7 million) Seachill division in the U.K.

In addition to The Saucy Fish, Smith also is known at the company for integrating the commercial functions of Seachill and Icelandic’s other two U.K.-based businesses, Coldwater and Icelandic UK.

“I’m ready to build on the integration we’ve undertaken and lead the next phase of development for Icelandic Seachill,” Smith said.

Prior to Icelandic, Smith worked for 15 years at a number of companies including GlaxoSmithKline, Diageo, General Mills, Haagen Dazs and Northern Foods’ Fox’s Biscuits.

“This appointment not only reflects the positive impact that Simon has had on the UK business in recent years, but also underpins the future business strategy of Icelandic Group which is to inspire consumers to consume more fish, from a sustainable source,” said Magnus Bjarnason, Icelandic’s president and CEO.
