Lidl sells whole lobsters for under GBP 3 – but there’s a catch

Discount retailer Lidl is offering its U.K. customers whole cooked 350g lobsters for GBP 2.99 (EUR 3.88; USD 4.26), 40 percent less than the usual price, until 20 March. However, to walk away with the cut-price crustaceans, savvy shoppers will need to present a voucher from the store’s Easter brochure. Furthermore, only one voucher may be used per transaction.

The lobsters, which are Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified, are sourced from New Brunswick. They are cooked and frozen locally before being shipped to the U.K. market.

Lidl sold the same lobsters for GBP 4.99 (EUR 6.47; USD 7.10) in the run up to Christmas 2015 to lure more shoppers to its stores. In 2014, it was selling uncertified lobsters for GBP 5.99 (EUR 7.77; USD 8.52).
