Long John Silver’s, Dairy Queen add Lent deals

Long John Silver’s is adding a fish basket and fish sandwich to celebrate Lent and its 50th anniversary, while Dairy Queen is rolling out a wild Alaskan pollock fish sandwich.

Long John Silver’s, which operators around 900 franchised restaurants in the United States, unveiled a new Thick Cut Alaska White Fish Basket and a Thick Cut Alaska White Fish Sandwich Combo for the Lenten season, which begins on 6 March.

“We are always looking for new ways to surprise and delight our guests, many of whom are loyal fans of the golden fried fish that’s made us famous for 50 years,” said Stephanie Mattingly, vice president of marketing and culinary innovation, in a statement from Long  John Silver’s. “What could be better than our golden fried Alaska White Fish? Our new golden fried Thick Cut Alaska White Fish that’s 50 percent thicker so that you get more delicious, flaky fish in every bite.”

The chain’s Thick Cut White Fish Basket includes two pieces of Thick Cut Alaska White Fish, choice of a side, and two signature hushpuppies for USD 5.99 (EUR 5.27). Meanwhile, The Thick Cut White Fish Sandwich Combo will include a Thick Cut Alaska White Fish Sandwich, served with pickles and Long John Silver’s signature tartar sauce, as well as the choice of a side and a 20-ounce drink for USD 5.99 (EUR 5.27).

Long John Silver’s is also planning several initiatives in 2019 to celebrate 50 years of “bringing a unique seafood experience from the coast to guests everywhere,” the company said.

“Our company is reaching a major milestone this year as we celebrate our 50th anniversary in August,” said James O’Reilly, CEO of Long John Silver’s. “From 1969 to 2019, Long John Silver’s has continued growing and evolving to meet our guests’ desires and we can’t wait to commemorate this special year with all of our guests.”

Dairy Queen is also introducing new products ahead of Lent. The chain is rolling out its Wild Alaskan Fish Sandwich, which includes a crispy, breaded Alaskan pollock filet on a toasted bun with lettuce and tangy tartar sauce, served with fries. It will be available from 25 February through 19 March.
