Some grocery stores will receive orders of Matlaw’s frozen stuffed clams and other National Fish & Seafood products by the end of May, the new owners of NFS said.
As SeafoodSource reported last week, NSD Seafood Inc., doing business as Atlantic Fish & Seafood, acquired the assets of NFS, which include the Matlaw’s and Schooner brands.
Atlantic Fish & Seafood could begin production as early as 28 May, the company said in a press release. “This will allow Atlantic Fish & Seafood to meet customer orders and ship products to grocery stores by the end of May,” it said.
"National Fish has a strong customer base and they enjoy working with our staff, which is very skilled and knowledgeable,” said Nick Osgood, president and CEO of NSD Seafood.
NFS abruptly closed its doors on 10 May, then SeafoodSource first broke the story on 20 May that an unnamed buyer wanted to acquire NFS and resume the company’s operations.
On 22 May, NSD Seafood agreed to purchase all of National Fish's assets and rename the company Atlantic Fish & Seafood.
"I would expect to bring back as many workers as we possibly can, as many as the business and our growth will allow,” Osgood told the Gloucester Daily Times.
The new management team expects to relocate its administrative offices from 11-15 Parker St. to its 159 E. Main St. site.
