The first Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)-certified shrimp were packed in the Morubel factory this Wednesday in Oostende, Belgium, and loaded for transport to Colruyt Group for sale in Benelux and France.
The retail company, based in Belgium, aims to have the product in stores available for sale by this weekend.
While the ASC standard for responsible shrimp farming was approved in March, Morubel motivated and supported its suppliers months earlier to prepare for an ASC audit. Suppliers were among the first to be evaluated against the ASC standard in Vietnam.
