New sardine product picked up by Walmart

Crown Prince Seafood of City of Industry, Calif., has launched a line of pouch-packed sardines.

Packed in eco-friendly, easy-to-open pouches, the wild-caught Thailand sardines are available in four varieties: light smoked in soy bean oil, no salt added in spring water, spicy in Louisiana hot sauce and traditional in mustard. Each 3.35-ounce pouch offers 0.93 grams of omega-3s per serving.

The product is already available at select Kroger, Dillons, King Soopers and City Market supermarkets and, beginning this month, it will be carried by 2,800 Walmart locations nationwide.

“Wild caught sardines have been staples of the Crown Prince product lines for years. We are extremely excited to partner with Walmart, Kroger, Dillons, King Soopers and City Markets in debuting the pouch-packed varieties to an even wider audience,” said Dustin Hoffman, president of Crown Prince. “The packaging is designed to be light in weight and minimal in material. We wanted to create something that was convenient, efficient and of the highest quality.”

In addition to sardines, Crown Prince also markets anchovies, baby clams, crab meat, mackerel, oysters, shrimp and tuna.
