Ocean Beauty to debut new portions, salmon candy at Seafood Expo North America

Ocean Beauty Seafoods will debut new products under its Ocean Beauty and Echo Falls brands at Seafood Expo North America 2019 in Boston, Massachusetts, 17 to 19 March.

In addition, after the Seattle, Washington-based supplier announced last month that it has become the U.S. distributor for Findus, a brand of Nomad Foods in Sweden, it said it will display Findus’s frozen portions, breaded and value-added seafood, and steamable flavored cod loins at the expo.

Ocean Beauty’s new retail line of skin-packed seafood portions under its Ocean Beauty brand includes Alaska sockeye salmon, Alaska halibut, Alaska cod, Pacific rockfish, farmed coho salmon, and tilapia.

“The new line offers retailers an easy way to offer top quality refreshed products year-round without the need for a full-service seafood case,” Ron Christianson, vice president of domestic sales and marketing for Ocean Beauty, told SeafoodSource.

Available in fixed- and random-weight options, the line minimizes handling in store. Retailers receive the product frozen and then defrost and display them as needed.

“This minimizes waste and preserves product quality. Any retailer can do this, even those without a full-service seafood case, because the product is already packed and labeled for them,” Christianson said.

The portions are packed with a non-barrier film that retains moisture, protects product integrity, and eliminates leaking, Christianson said.

“For the consumer, it is right on trend. It is pre-portioned, beautiful seafood with clearly stated origins of the products. They get great quality and convenience with no mess,” he said.

Ocean Beauty is also introducing Echo Falls Applewood Smoked Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon Candy and Beechwood Smoked Norwegian Atlantic Salmon. The Salmon Candy was introduced earlier for club stores and bulk sales, but this is the first time it is being sold in a retail package, according to Christianson.

The Smoked Norwegian Atlantic Salmon is dry-cured and smoked over beechwood.

“Ocean Beauty is transparent about where the fish is from, the species, how it is produced, and how it is smoked, unlike many other brands in the U.S.,” Christianson said.

In addition, Ocean Beauty updated its Echo Falls packaging with a cleaner and bolder design.

“The new packages also further highlight product transparency by clearly identifying the fish origin, species, flavor, and smoke type,” Ocean Beauty said in a press release.

Ocean Beauty will display the new products at Booth #1205 at Seafood Expo North America.
