Ore. firm gets ‘sporty’ with its tuna, salmon

Oregon Seafoods has introduced three 3-ounce Sport Pouch™ items to its Sea Fare Pacific™ brand — Smoked Albacore Tuna, Sea Salt Albacore Tuna and Smoked Alaskan Red Sockeye Salmon.

REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.), an outdoor recreation and sporting goods retailer with about 110 retail stores in 30 U.S. states, will carry the new Sport Pouch items in its top 24 stores.

The suggested retail price is USD 3 to USD 4.95.

“The Sport Pouch is a smaller, more convenient package that reaches a different retail sector from the grocery channels,” said Mike Babcock, owner of Oregon Seafoods in Coos Bay, Ore. “Our four original Sea Fare Pacific products are jumping onto the shelves so I thought the Sport Pouch would be a natural next step.”

This summer, Sea Fare Pacific launched its original 6-ounce wild-caught albacore tuna products in four flavors: Sea Salt, Salt-Free, Jalapeño and Smoked — at a suggested retail price of USD 5.50 to USD 7.

Founded in 2010 by Babcock, Oregon Seafoods sources its albacore from U.S. West Coast hook-and-line fishermen.
