West Sacramento, California-based supermarket chain Raley’s is featuring fish and shellfish as a focal point of its refreshed Ready-To-Go program.
The operator of 122 grocery stores recently revamped its prepared meal program, adding healthy ingredients – including seafood and vegetables – as well as new sizes, more global flavors, and new packaging. Shoppers can heat the meals, packed in aluminum trays, directly in microwaves, or in ovens.
Ready-To-Go seafood meals include: Salmon with Lentils and Orzo entrée for USD 6.99 (EUR 5.87), Lobster Mac and Cheese entrée for USD 6.99 (EUR 5.87) and a Shrimp Scampi mini-meal for USD 4.99 (EUR 4.19). Since it was rolled out in October, the Salmon with Lentils and Orzo meal has been one of Raley’s top-selling prepared meals, Chelsea Minor, director of public relations and public affairs for Raley’s, told SeafoodSource.
“Customers are looking for healthier options and alternatives to the traditional red meat and poultry…and we want to provide good options that are both ‘better for you’ and indulgences,” Minor said.
The wild Alaskan salmon used in the salmon entree is certified by both the Alaska Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) and the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). King and Prince supplies the North Atlantic lobster used in the lobster entree, and Sea Port provides the farm-raised Thailand shrimp used in the Shrimp Scampi mini-meal.
Raley’s executives decided to revamp the line to meet consumers’ demand for more convenient and healthy options, the company said in a statement. Ready-to-Go meals are now sold in three different sizes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner: mini, entrée size, and large family size.
“We understand the importance of convenient, healthy food options at a value and believe our customers will enjoy the new meals, made with quality ingredients that taste great,” Raley’s President and COO Keith Knopf said.
Raley’s Ready-To-Go Meals range in price from USD 3.99 (EUR 3.35) for a single serving to USD 16.99 (EUR 14.27) for a family-size meal.
