Rockfish Acquired by Texas-Based Private Investment Group

Rockfish Seafood Grill has been acquired by three Texas-based private equity firms and individual investor Henry Leonard, the Richardson, Texas-based casual seafood chain unveiled today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded by Randy DeWitt in Plano, Texas, in 1998, Rockfish operates 14 restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and Lubbock, Texas, areas and in Durham, N.C. Brinker International, the Dallas-based casual-dining company that operates Chili's, acquired an interest in Rockfish in 2001.

Leonard, of Tyler, Texas, will become CEO of Rockfish. The private equity firms are Charter Private Equity LP and White Oak Capital Partners LP, both of Dallas, and Capital Point Partners of Houston. They plan to immediately expand the chain.

"Founder Randy Dewitt did a terrific job of creating and incubating the concept, and his team has developed a dynamic and energetic culture that is ready for growth," says Leonard. "We're honored to be part of such a motivated and seasoned group."

"I am pleased that I was able to sell the Rockfish brand to a solid operating team interested in growing the concept," says DeWitt. "The sale enables me to further develop the Twin Peaks brand and launch additional new brands."

The Rockfish menu features the signature Mexican Shrimp Martini, Santa Fe Fish Tacos, Seafood Enchiladas, Cajun Shrimp Pasta, Crawfish Etouffee, Cedar Plank Salmon, Stuffed Alaskan Flounder and Sizzling Pecan Trout. The menu also included soups, salads, sandwiches and an array of appetizers.
