New York culinary student Lor Lee has been declared the winner of Sea Watch International's 2014 clam challenge contest.
Lee beat co-finalist Courtney Hamblin, also of New York, with his recipe, spaghetti with an Asian aromatic coconut clam sauce with clam balls. Hamblin submitted a clam and avocado quinoa salad. Both finalists are students at the Culinary Institute of America in New York City.
"In years past we have most often experienced blow outs, but not this year. The final tallies were close and I am proud of the way both contestants committed to the contest", said Guy Simmons, VP of marketing and product development for Sea Watch.
For the seventh annual contest, held 16 March at Seafood Expo North America in Boston, both Lee and Hamblin presented their dishes to visitors at the show.
Lor received USD 2,500 for his winning recipe and Courtney as first runner-up received USD 1,000.
"Our two finalists showed that they had great creativity as well as awareness of current culinary trends," Simmons said.
