Seafood Excellence finalists unveiled

 The finalists for the International Boston Seafood Show 2010 Seafood Excellence Awards were announced on Friday by event organizer Diversified Business Communications of Portland, Maine.

The winners will be announced at the Seafood Excellence Awards Ceremony and Reception from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, 14 March at booth 2277 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

Awards will be presented to the best new retail and foodservice products.

The foodservice category finalists are: Splash! Coated and Crusted Swai from Clear Springs Foods; Rotisserie-Style Cod from Fishery Products International; Lobster Tempura from Shucks Maine Lobster; and Smoked Salmon Bacon from MacKnight Smoked Foods.

The retail finalists are: Mandarin Orange Salmon Sea Choice Steamer Entrée from Ocean Beauty Seafoods; Caribbean Style Cod Fillets from Trident Seafoods; Boil in the Bag Shrimp Entrees from Wholey; Low Fat Grilled Tuscan Herb Tilapia from Good Harbor Fillet; Cedar Bay Planked Salmon from CFE International; Gluten Free Crispy Battered Halibut from Starfish; and Shrimp Risotto Stuffed Sole from High Liner Sea Cuisine.

The finalists will be judged on packaging, convenience, marketability, nutrition, originality and overall eating experience.

Last year, MacKnight Smoked Food's Smoked Salmon Bagel Slice took home the best new retail product award, while Azuma Foods International's Shrimp Sheet won the best new foodservice award.

More than 75 products were entered in this year's competition.
