SeaPak rolls out new line of lighter meals

Timed with the start of the Lenten season, SeaPak Shrimp and Seafood is introducing a line of lighter and healthier seafood meals.

Best known for products like breaded butterfly shrimp, the St. Simons Island, Georgia, U.S.A.-based frozen seafood manufacturer is now rolling out its healthier SeaPak Selections line in Kroger and Meijer supermarkets nationwide.

The line will also be available in some Ahold Delhaize-owned chains, including select Food Lion, Stop and Shop, and Hannaford stores.

“We know many consumers are shifting their eating habits toward lighter and healthier meals – particularly at the start of the year – and they’re actively incorporating this mindset into their weekly menu planning,” SeaPak Marketing Manager Leslie Harris Thomas said. “Our goal is to steer those individuals toward the frozen food aisle, where they’ll find better-for-you SeaPak Selections choices that can be prepared without any hassle.”

Consumer preferences for leading seafood proteins such as shrimp, salmon and crab, along with low-calorie and minimally-processed ingredients, were key factors in the creation of the SeaPak Selections line, Harris Thomas said.

The new products include: SeaPak Selections Lemon Pepper Shrimp, which contains 12 grams of protein per serving and is made with Best Aquaculture Practices-certified shrimp; SeaPak Selections Creamy Garlic Shrimp, which contains 13 grams of proteins and also contains BAP-certified shrimp; SeaPak Selections Alaskan Salmon Burgers, made with wild Alaskan pink salmon certified by the Responsible Fisheries Management program; SeaPak Selections Sesame Ginger Salmon, which contains 23 grams of protein per serving and also is RFM-certified; and SeaPak Selections Maryland Style Crab Cakes, which contain 10 grams of protein per serving and are backed by the National Fisheries Institute’s Crab Council.

Leslie Thomas said the new meals are designed to appeal to SeaPak’s two types of shoppers: people who don’t consider themselves “cooks” and are looking for delicious, quick and easy mealtime solutions, and people who thrive in their kitchens and seek out attractive, new products and flavors that will elevate their meals.
