SENA15: Yihe Corp., High Liner Foods sweep Seafood Excellence

Yihe Corporation and High Liner Foods both won Seafood Excellence Awards today at Seafood Expo North America 2015. Yihe’s Alaskan Jack’s salmon brand won the “Best New Retail” award, while High Liner Foods won the “Best New Foodservice” award for its Pulled BBQ Salmon.

"It's like the Oscars," said James Labelle, vice president of foodservice marketing at High Liner Foods. "It's very exciting. We're leaders, and our role is to help grow interest in seafood in general with new products."

"It's a game-changer for Yihe," said Mike Klein, vice president of sales at Yihe. "Yihe is strong in commodity salmon and we look forward to brand building." Klein added the company is planning on releasing five new products in Fall 2015. "We want to stay true to the species," he said.

Winners of the awards were selected from a group of finalists during a live judging by a panel of seafood buyers and experts from the retail and foodservice industries. The Awards recognize the product leaders in the North American seafood market.

Judges for this year’s awards included Kelly Werner from Schwan’s Home Service, Olivia Waszkiewicz from Sam’s Club and Jeff Meagher from Performance Foodservice.

Prior to this, finalists were selected through a screening of products participating in the Seafood Expo North America New Product Showcase. The Showcase features products, condiments and culinary dishes launched in the past year by exhibiting companies.
