Natural Smoked Tasmanian Trout from Sugartown Smoked Specialties of West Chester, Pa., captured the grand prize in the outstanding fish and seafood category at the third annual 2008 Gallo Family Vineyards Gold Medal Awards.
Seven judges blind tasted nearly 300 entries to pick winners in late April in seven categories - bread/baked goods; dairy; meat and charcuterie; confectionary goods; condiment, oil or vinegar; fruits or vegetables; and fish or seafood - and an overall winner.
The winners received a trip to New York where they were honored with a four-course meal featuring the winning products at Park Avenue Spring restaurant, a $5,000 business development grant, national advertisement exposure and an annual membership to Chefs Collaborative.
The winners can also display the Gallo Family Vineyards Gold Medal Awards "seal of excellence" on their products as a symbol of quality.
