Sustainable sushi ingredients supplier Culimer USA is rebranding as Oddisea SuperFrozen.

The Ridgefield, New Jersey, U.S.A.-based company said the change was made in response to growing U.S. consumer concerns about “the management of our oceans, the origins of our seafood, and the purity of the process, thus the increasing need for transparent seafood supply chains.”

“Our passion has always been offering seafood as it should be: clean, natural, and responsibly sourced. At the same time, we have built a business on the principles of transparency and traceability. We care about the state of our oceans, the workers in our supply chains, and the impact of our operations. We have always placed corporate social responsibility at the heart of what we do,” Oddisea CEO Michael McNicholas said.

With the creation of Oddisea SuperFrozen, the company is “committed to maintaining this path for the highest possible benchmark for product quality, safety, and traceability,” McNicholas added.

To that end, Oddisea SuperFrozen is focused on scaling up its SuperFrozen technology through supply chain partnerships to deliver high-quality minus 76 degrees Fahrenheit tuna products across North America.

While tasteless smoke, vitamins, marinades, aromas, and carbon monoxide (CO) are common types of ways to preserve and enhance tuna, SuperFrozen technology preserves tuna without the use of any additives, chemicals, or smoke, the company said.

“All other processes manipulate the product, regardless of the marketing that accompanies it,” the firm said

Freezing the product at minus 76 degrees immediately post-catch preserves the product exactly at the moment of catch and is the most sustainable way to handle tuna, according to the company.

Although relatively new to the North American market, SuperFrozen technology has been in use in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan for more than 60 years, Oddisea said.
