Taco Bell plans to feature a Crayfish Taco in its Chinese eateries starting in August.
The chain opened its first Chinese restaurant in Shanghai’s Lujiazui area last year.
Each taco contains at least a dozen crayfish, “making for a pretty hefty amount of seafood inside,” Foodbeast reported.
“The sweetness of the crayfish is matched with a special crayfish sauce that repurposes traditional Chinese spices into a taco form," Foodbeast said. The sauce consists of a unique blend of 13 spices, including Sichuan peppercorn, fennel, and galangal.
In an email to SeafoodSource, Taco Bell said the item would be on menus for a limited time only in China, and did not say if or when the taco would be introduced in the United States.
