Calamari supplier The Town Dock recently expanded and redesigned its retail product line.
The Narragansett, Rhode Island, U.S.A.-based company updated its packaging, including adding a recipe on the back of each box with a QR code taking consumers directly to a recipe video showing step-by-step cooking instructions.
“Our expanded and redesigned retail offering allows us to better connect with home chefs, giving them easy access to responsibly sourced and delicious calamari along with great recipes to make in the comfort of their own kitchens,” The Town Dock President and CEO Ryan Clark said in a press release.
Its retail products – Longfin Calamari, available as rings or tubes and with or without tentacles; and Shortfin Calamari in rings or tubes, with or without tentacles – now feature the updated packaging. The Town Dock has also added Calamari Steaks, cut from Peruvian jumbo squid, to its product line.
Both the Longfin and Shortfin calamari species are products of the U.S.A. and certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council.
The line is available nationwide at Whole Foods and select ACME Markets, Big Y, BJ’s Wholesale, Cub Foods, Hy-Vee, Market Basket, Safeway Eastern, and other retailers.
A family-owned company, The Town Dock is one of the largest calamari suppliers in the United States, according to the company.
“Working with a dedicated partner fleet of fishing vessels, local fishermen, and global suppliers who share the same values, The Town Dock sources the best calamari from all over the world,” the company said.
The Town Dock’s seafood harvesting best practices, which include strict compliance with regulatory guidelines and quotas, “allows The Town Dock to meet the high standards and offer the only two species of sustainable squid certified by the MSC,” the company said.
