Trident wins Seattle People’s Choice Award

Trident Seafoods’ Wild Alaskan Smoked & Peppered Sockeye Salmon beat out 14 other entries to win the 18th annual Seattle People’s Choice Award as part of the Alaska Symphony of Seafood new product competition in Seattle late last week.

“Every year, we’re amazed at the diversity and quality of the new seafood product entries from Alaska’s fisheries, and this year the Wild Alaskan Smoked and Peppered Sockeye Salmon by Trident was the people’s favorite in Seattle. We’ll have to see if Anchorage and Juneau attendees agree,” said Jim Browning with the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation, which organizes the event.

A panel of judges will honor Trident Seafoods at an awards ceremony and reception at the Hilton Anchorage Alaska Hotel on 11 February.

Also at the event, the Alaska Symphony of Seafood grand prize winner, first, second and third place category winners and Anchorage People’s Choice Award winner will be unveiled. The first place winners from each category — retail, foodservice and smoked products — will receive free booth space at the International Boston Seafood Show in March, as well as airfare to and from the event.

Ivar’s Seafood took home last year’s Seattle People’s Choice Award for its Wild Alaskan Smoked Salmon Chowder. Also last year, Trident’s Alaskan Amber Beer Battered Cod won the best new foodservice product. In 2009, Trident  cleaned up the competition — its Sesame Teriyaki Keta Salmon captured the grand prize and best new foodservice product, while its Naturals Thai Chili Salmon Fillets captured the best new retail product and Seattle People's Choice Award.

Established by the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF) in 1993, the Alaska Symphony of Seafood promotes and inspires better use of Alaska seafood and gives seafood companies a venue to introduce new and innovative value-added seafood products from Alaska fisheries.
