Rosemont, Illinois, U.S.A.-based foodservice distributor US Foods broke ground on an expansion of its facility in Buda, Texas, that will add 170,000 square feet to the 290,000-square-foot facility.

The firm plans to invest more than USD 120 million (EUR 105 million) in the expansion, which it said will enable the company to expand the capacity of its warehouse and fleet operations, US Foods Spokeswoman Sara Matheu told SeafoodSource.

"We are excited to continue to invest in our Buda facility and to continue to grow and enhance our service to the many foodservice operators we serve across the region,” Matheu said.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the expansion last November and said a Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant of around USD 1 million (EUR 876,000) was extended to US Foods.

“The increased capacity will enhance food distribution along the I-35 corridor, especially to Austin’s world-class food scene,” Texas Senator Judith Zaffirini said in the press release. “This project highlights our tradition of private-public collaboration that spurs tremendous regional growth.”

The expansion, which will be completed in 2027, will add around 165 full-time jobs by the end of 2031, according to US Foods.

Elsewhere, Birmingham, Alabama, U.S.A.-based seafood distributor Evans Meats and Seafood is building a new corporate office in downtown Birmingham.

The company recently secured a building permit to renovate a 116,000-square-foot facility, with the total contract valued at USD 7.55 million (EUR 6.6 million), according to Retail Specialists, which represented Evans in the building’s purchase.

Evans purchased the building for around USD 2.6 million (EUR 2.3 million), per Bham Now.

The new headquarters, slated to open in the spring of 2026, will include office space, a warehouse, food-processing areas, and distribution space.

Evans Meats and Seafood, founded in 1998, employs 135 people and plans to add 20 more positions by 2030. In addition to its distribution business, the company operates the brick-and-mortar Son of a Butcher, which offers specialty meats, seafood, and cheeses.
