US Foods acquires seafood and meat distributor

Less than a month after acquiring All American Foods, a distributor in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, US Foods agreed to purchase meat and seafood distributor SRA Foods.

Based in Birmingham, Alabama, meat processor and distributor SRA Foods has annual sales of approximately USD 80 million (EUR 75.9 million). The details of the transaction, expected to close in late March, were not disclosed.

“With a large population of BBQ and meat-centric restaurants throughout the South, this acquisition will help strengthen US Foods’ center-of-the-plate offerings to its customers throughout the region,” the company said in a statement.

SRA Foods operates a nearly 70,000 square foot facility and runs a fleet of nearly 20 trucks. The family-owned SRA, which started out as a butcher shop in Birmingham in 1940, now services more than 1,000 customers.

"We are proud to be joining US Foods, a company that shares our vision for providing our valued customers with the highest levels of quality and service,” said Anthony Anselmo, president of SRA Foods. “We’re pleased US Foods will continue to invest in our business and support our employees and the community of Birmingham."

US Foods will continue to operate its Birmingham facility, and expects to add more than 100 employees to the company. The location will become part of US Foods’ Stock Yards organization, which provides high-quality meat and seafood, which is then custom-cut and packaged to customers’ specifications.
