WWF, Giant Eagle partner

World Wildlife Fund on Thursday announced it is partnering with Giant Eagle to develop a strategy for sourcing sustainable seafood.

WWF will assist Giant Eagle in discussions with the Mid-Atlantic supermarket chain’s source fisheries to encourage them to pursue Marine Stewardship Council sustainability certification.

“We are committed to working collaboratively with industry players to promote sustainable seafood to protect the ocean and ensure a continued supply of seafood into the future,” said Bill Fox, WWF’s fisheries program VP and managing director. “We look forward to working with Giant Eagle as they develop best practices on this important and very complex topic.”

Giant Eagle operates more than 225 company-owned and franchised stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.
