Bayou Best Foods, a manufacturer of plant-based shrimp analogs, has acquired BettaF!ish, a developer of plant-based fish analog products.

Berlin, Germany-based BettaF!sh is a leading seaweed company creating a range of different seafood analogs, including “Sal-Nom,” its smoked salmon analog, and “Tu-Nah,” a plant-based tuna analog. Bayou Best Foods said the company’s offerings complement its own plant-based shrimp analogs.

"Our goal has always been to bring great-tasting, ocean-friendly seafood to more people, and BettaF!sh is exactly the kind of partner that makes that possible," Bayou Best Foods CEO Kelli Wilson said. "We share the same belief that seafood should be delicious, accessible, and sustainable, and we see enormous potential in what we can build together."

Bayou Best said BettaF!sh will contribute its expertise in seaweed-based seafood analog innovation and its established European retail and foodservice presence, while Bayou Best Foods will bring its proven track record commercializing plant-based seafood analogs in the U.S.

"This is a natural next chapter for BettaF!sh," BettaF!sh Founder and CEO Deniz Ficicioglu said. "Both of our companies were built on the belief that protecting the ocean and creating exceptional food should go hand in hand. By joining forces, we can move faster, reach more customers, and help shape the future of seafood together."

The companies said with the acquisition, Bayou Best Foods’ products will become available to BettaF!sh’s foodservice partners across Europe, while BettaF!sh’s plant-based tuna and salmon analogs will be available to Bayou Best Foods’ U.S. network over time.
