Cargill is planning to construct an animal nutrition factory in southern Vietnam to meet growing demand from the country's livestock and aquaculture sectors.
The company announced during the 25th anniversary of its operations in Vietnam earlier this month that the USD 28 million (EUR 23 million) plant will apply “state-of-the-art technology” to produce specialty nutrition and premix products “to serve Vietnam livestock and aquaculture farmers with a broad range of animal nutrition offerings.”
“The last 25 years has been an amazing journey for Cargill in Vietnam. We are committed to the development of Vietnam’s agriculture sector and we are optimistic about the future for Cargill and for the farmers and communities across the country,” Cargill Animal Nutrition Managing Director in Thailand and Vietnam John Fering said in a statement. “As shown today, we will continue to make investments that advance Vietnam communities, create a brighter future for Vietnam’s future generations and help us deliver for Vietnamese customers, through quality animal nutrition and health innovations.”
A representative from Cargill told SeafoodSource on Thursday, 17 December, the company expects to complete construction and put the plant into operation in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Cargill began its operations in Vietnam in 1995. It has spent more than USD 160 million (EUR 131.4 million) building 11 animal nutrition factories, one grain and oilseed warehouse, and two aqua technology application facilities for fish and shrimp across the country. The company has a total workforce of 1,500 people in Vietnam.
An estimated 1.7 million local farmers have been trained on healthcare, nutritional knowledge, and best practices in farm management by the company, according to Cargill.
