Chinese biotech firm Bio-Form branching into aquaculture remediation products

A Chinese company specializing in water treatment has set up a new subsidiary catering to the aquaculture industry.

Guangdong, China-based Bi Wo Feng (it also uses the English name Bio-Form Biotechnology Co.) has established Bi Wo Feng Fisheries Industry (Guangdong) Co. with backing from a local venture capital house Wei Dao (Guangdong) Investments. Wei Dao has invested CNY 10 million (USD 1.5 million, EUR 1.4 million) for a 95 percent stake in the company.

Bio-Form, which is listed on the small- and medium-sized enterprise board at the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, has branch offices in key aquaculture regions including Hubei, Jiangsu, and Shandong provinces. Bio-Form’s current offerings include a range of over-the-counter products for fish farmers, including the Bio-Form Water Reform product and a Nitrogen Transform product that reduces the presence of ammonia and nitrogren in water, thus inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria.

In recent years, China has clamped down heavily on pollution in the aquaculture sector as part of an effort to improve the state of the country’s waterways.

The firm also supplies a range of industrial clients, including a portion of its business dedicated to the country’s growing dairy companies, which have also struggled to deal with waste management.
