Mount Hawthorn, Western Australia, Australia-based Austral Fisheries’ long-serving chief financial officer Greg Johnston has announced his retirement.
Johnston is retiring after working at Austral for over 20 years, according to a press release. Johnston’s retirement is effective 30 September, at which date he will be replaced by newly appointed Stuart Nisbet.
“Mr. Johnston retires as a highly respected CFO within the fishing industry, having helped to navigate Austral through its significant change and growth during his tenure.” Austral Fisheries CEO David Carter said. “I have been immensely grateful for Greg’s friendship and professionalism during his time with Austral. It has been a partnership that has brought our complementary skills together and taken us on an extraordinary journey. I thank Greg for his service, sacrifice, and loyalty and wish him all the very best in his retirement.”
Nisbet’s prior experience includes a stint in the United Kingdom car retail and semiconductor equipment sectors. He moved to Australia in 2008, and entered the natural resources services industry, and most recently served as the CFO of Fremantle Octopus.
“I look forward to seeing Stuart apply his unique background and character to this business and
have every confidence that he will make a positive contribution to Austral,” Carter said.
Austral Fisheries is one of the first seafood companies the first in the world to be certified as carbon neutral – a feat that led to it winning the Environment Award at the 2021 Western Australia Seafood Industry Awards.
The company said it has planted over one million trees to date to offset carbon emissions, and is certified by the Australian government's “Climate Active” program.
“Being carbon neutral not only makes our staff proud to work for Austral but it also helps differentiate and enhance the value of our branded products whilst contributing towards tackling the challenges of global climate change,” Austral said on its website.
