Brim nets two Icelandic fisheries firms, builds cod allocation

Brim has signed a contract to buy two fellow Icelandic fisheries companies, Fiskvinnslan Kambur hf. and Grábrók ehf, both based in Hafnarfjörður, for a total ISK 3.15 billion (USD 25.2 million, EUR 22.6 million).

Brim CEO Guðmundur Kristjánsson said the purpose of the acquisition is to strengthen his firm as a leading company in the seafood industry in Iceland.

“We are now increasing our catch allowance in cod, acquiring high-tech processing units and gaining access to human resources that enable us to make fish processing in Iceland even more compatible for the global market,” he said.

Fiskvinnslan Kambur and Grábrók both operate one fishing vessel and have a total catch allocation of 2,850 metric tons (MT), mainly of cod.

Fiskvinnsla Kambur also operates a high-tech fish processing plant that last year bought state of the art processing lines from the Icelandic producer Valka hf.

Brim used to be known as HB Grandi – the company changed its name in August 2019.
