Friends of the Sea has announced that it has recertified Acuapesca Group, a Peru-based seafood processor and exporter, to its sustainable seafood production standard.
The recertification allows Acuapesca to continue using the Friend of the Sea eco-label on its products. The company has been certified since 2009.
“We are very pleased to again bestow our certification on Acuapesca Group and its family of companies that put a priority on sustainable practices,” said Paolo Bray, Director of Friend of the Sea. “They have a large-scale, complex operation, so the certification was not a simple process. We admire their commitment to the environment.”
Acuapesca is devoted to the harvest and raising of Peruvian scallops, and was, as of June, the first farm producer of organic scallops in the world, according to a release from Friends of the Sea. The company has also obtained BRC, IFS, ISO9001, and BASC certifications.
