King Oscar enters Canadian market

Norwegian seafood producer King Oscar, a subsidiary of Thai Union PCL, is entering the Canadian market for the first time.

Regal/Euro Excellence will distribute King Oscar’s products, starting with its brisling sardines and mackerel.

“King Oscar has entertained selling our products in Canada for several years. We are excited to finally launch our brand into a market filled with discerning seafood lovers,” King Oscar USA President John Engle said in a press release.

King Oscar’s gourmet brisling sardine selections use “Sprattus Sprattus,” responsibly wild-caught from Norway’s icy fjords and nearby waters.

“The fish are authentically and lightly smoked in oak-wood ovens for superior taste and texture, then packed by hand into certified BPA-NI, recyclable aluminum cans,” King Oscar said.

The brand’s Skinless & Boneless Mackerel Fillets are the fastest growing product assortment in the King Oscar portfolio, according to the supplier.

“Sustainably wild-caught in the clean and ice-cold waters of the Northeast Atlantic Ocean between Norway and the Faroe Islands, King Oscar’s mackerel is a smaller than average North Atlantic Mackerel species, which provide milder taste, better texture, and juicier, more tender fillets than other varieties,” the company said.

King Oscar also recently launched jarred Yellowfin Tuna Fillets in the U.S. The easy-pour, whole fillet release jars feature wild-caught yellowfin tuna paired with gourmet condiments. Flavors include: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Green Olives, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Jalapeno Peppers, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Sun-Dried Tomatoes.
