A slew of new seafood products are hitting shelves and freezers in U.S. supermarkets in February 2024.

Essen, Germany-based retailer ALDI is offering specials on several of its private-label seafood products in February and is launching pollock portions for the first time. Available from 28 February onward, the pollock portions – coming in the form of sandwiches in original and dill pickle flavors under the company’s Fremont Fish Market brand – retail for USD 4.99 (EUR 4.60) each.

ALDI, which operates more than 2,300 stores in the U.S., declined to disclose its suppliers, but a spokesperson said all ALDI-exclusive fresh, frozen, and canned seafood comes from “responsibly managed fisheries and farms that work to minimize their impacts on the wider marine environment and prioritize human rights.”

St. Simons Island, Georgia, U.S.A.-based seafood brand Morey’s is launching a new frozen entree nationwide: Morey’s Tilapia Sweet Chili, available now in Publix stores across the country. The 10-ounce packages, which include two marinated fillets, retail for between USD 7.99 (UER 7.36) and USD 10.99 (EUR 10.12) each.

The product is aimed at capitalizing on consumer trends, Morey’s said. The popularity of Asian-style sweet chili flavors continues to grow in the U.S., with 46 percent of U.S.  consumers saying they love or like the flavor of sweet chili, and 42 percent saying it is their preferred Asian-style sauce, according to Datassential.

The tilapia fillets are "high-quality" and certified to the Aquaculture Stewardship Council standard, according to Morey's. They "pair perfectly with a sweet and spicy marinade that features notes of honey, soy, peppers, and garlic,” the company said. The new product is also gluten-free.

Camden, New Jersey, U.S.A.-based Campbell’s is showcasing its newly released Culinary Reserve New England clam chowder for foodservice operators at Seafood Expo North America (SENA) in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. from 10 to 12 March. Other marketing efforts for Campbell’s at SENA include the company featuring the soup and other products at an exclusive food truck at the Boston Fish Pier.

“We know that New England clam chowder is the top frozen and refrigerated soup flavor in the category,” Campbell’s Foodservice Senior Director of U.S. Marketing Chris Graziano told SeafoodSource, citing NPD Supply Track data. "We’re always looking to bring customers trending and in-demand flavors.”
